Iniciou a sua carreira musical como integrante do Bromley Contingent, um grupo de seguidores dos Sex Pistols, que incluía membros dos The Clash e Siouxsie and the Banshees. Billy uniu-se a Tony James (que depois foi para o Sigue Sigue Sputnik e Sisters of Mercy), ambos faziam parte da primeira formação da lendária e famosa banda punk Chelsea, logo depois deixaram os Chelsea e formaram a banda Generation X, cujo nome veio de um livro sobre a Cultura Rock da Juventude dos Anos 60. O Generation X que, além do próprio Idol na guitarra e voz, trazia Tony James no baixo e John Towe na bateria, faz sucesso em Londres em 1979.

Após três discos lançados, o grupo acaba em 1980 e já no ano seguinte, Billy Idol resolve investir numa carreira a solo. Mudou-se em definitivo para os Estados Unidos e ao lado do respeitadíssimo guitarrista Steve Stevens, lançou grandes hits como "Dancing With Myself", "Mony Mony", "White Wedding", "Rebel Yell", "Eyes Without a Face", "Flesh For Fantasy", "Sweet Sixteen", "Don't Need a Gun" e "Cradle Of Love".

Em 19 de janeiro de 1991, Billy Idol fez a sua primeira apresentação no Brasil, na segunda edição do Rock In Rio. No dia seguinte, ele fez outra apresentação no Festival, que foi decidida em cima da hora pela produção, para substituir Robert Plant (ex-Led Zeppelin), que tinha cancelado, na véspera, a sua apresentação. A justificativa: a Guerra do Golfo. Idol não deixou a desejar e protagonizou, novamente, uma das melhores apresentações daquele festival.

O cantor permaneceu um longo tempo em silêncio na década de 90, onde lançou apenas o álbum "Cyberpunk". Em 2002, ele gravou o acústico “Storytellers” para o canal de televisão norte-americano VH-1 e em 2005 volta aos tops com o álbum Devil's Playground.

Em 2008 lançou o CD e DVD "The Very Best Of Billy Idol: Idolize Yourself", uma coletânea dos principais sucessos e duas faixas novas, John Wayne e New Future Weapon.

Martina Michèle Weymouth (Coronado, California, November 22, 1950) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and a founding member and bassist of the new wave group Talking Heads and its side project Tom Tom Club, which she co-founded with her husband, Talking Heads drummer Chris Frantz. Adam Ant é o nome artístico de Stuart Leslie Goddard (Londres, 3 de novembro de 1954), líder e vocalista da banda Adam and the Ants. Embora tenha começado a tocar música punk, foi aos poucos mudando seu estilo em direção à imagem de um astro pop. Assim como David Bowie, Madonna e outros célebres camaleões da música, Adam era notório por reinventar a sua imagem a cada disco novo.

Indubitavelmente o ponto alto da carreira de Ant foi no começo dos anos 80 com a sua banda. Ajudou muito o surgimento da MTV, que lhe deu o veículo ideal para transmitir a sua mensagem às massas - o videoclip.

Lobão - 68 anos

   

Lobão, nome artístico de João Luiz Woerdenbag Filho (Rio de Janeiro, 11 de outubro de 1957), é um cantor, compositor, músico e escritor brasileiro. A sua carreira musical é marcada por grandes parcerias; compôs sucessos como "Me Chama", canção muito famosa na voz de vários intérpretes, que ficou na 47ª posição das maiores músicas brasileiras, segundo a revista Rolling Stone, e "Vida Louca Vida", conhecida na voz de Cazuza. Apesar de ter surgido e conseguido sucesso no ambiente marginal e underground do rock brasileiro nos anos 80, Lobão vem dialogando com diversos géneros, como o samba e a MPB, ao longo de sua carreira. Em 1988, por exemplo, o disco Cuidado! contou com a participação da percussão da Estação Primeira de Mangueira. Midge Ure nasceu há setenta e dois anos

  

James "Midge" Ure (Cambuslang, 10 October 1953) is a Scottish musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. His stage name, Midge, is a phonetic reversal of Jim, the diminutive form of his actual name. Ure enjoyed particular success in the 1970s and 1980s in bands including Slik, Thin Lizzy, Rich Kids and Visage, and as the second frontman of Ultravox. In 1984, he co-wrote and produced the charity single "Do They Know It's Christmas?", which has sold 3.7 million copies in the UK. The song is the second-highest-selling single in UK chart history. Ure co-organised Band Aid, Live Aid and Live 8 with Bob Geldof. He acts as a trustee for the charity and also serves as an ambassador for Save the Children.

Ure is the producer and writer of several other synth-pop and new wave hit singles of the 1980s, including "Fade to Grey" (1980) by Visage and the Ultravox signature songs "Vienna" (1980) and "Dancing with Tears in My Eyes" (1984). He achieved his first UK top 10 solo hit in 1982 with "No Regrets". In 1985, his solo debut studio album The Gift reached number two in the UK Albums Chart and yielded the UK Singles Chart number-one single "If I Was". He also co-wrote Phil Lynott's "Yellow Pearl", which served as the theme of Top of the Pops for much of the 1980s.

Steven Severin é o nome artístico do baixista e compositor Steven John Bailey, nascido a 25 de setembro de 1955, em Londres. Ele integrou o famoso grupo de fãs dos Sex Pistols, o "Bromley Contingent", e é um dos membros fundadores dos Siouxsie And The Banshees. Antes de adotar como pseudónimo o nome "Steven Severin", que em muitos locais aparece também como "Steve Severin", (onde "Severin" é uma referência a canção "Venus In Furs", dos Velvet Underground), ele adotou outros como Steve Havoc e Steve Spunker.

Sal Solo, born Christopher Scott Stevens (Hatfield, Hertfordshire, 5 September 1961) is an English singer. 

   

Career

Solo began his career with a band called The News, which released one 7" single on GTO Records. Then he formed the pop group Classix Nouveaux, with former members of X-Ray Spex, which became associated with the burgeoning New Romantic movement. They released three albums with EMI Records. Classix Nouveaux had number one hits in Poland, Portugal, Israel, Iceland and other countries in the early 1980s. They also had one top 20 and various other top 50 hits in the United Kingdom, including "Is It a Dream", which reached No. 11 on the UK Singles Chart. The band split in 1985. Between 1984 and 1992, he provided lead vocals for the French space rock group Rockets.

Following a pilgrimage to San Damiano in Italy, Solo embraced the Roman Catholic faith of his childhood. He had a solo hit with "San Damiano (Heart and Soul)" which reached No. 15 on the UK Singles Chart, and went to No. 1 in Poland. The song has since been recorded by several artists, including Aled Jones for his 2003 album Higher, which remained on the UK Albums Chart top 40 for several weeks, and earned a silver disc.

In 1987, Solo became active in youth ministry in the Catholic Church in the UK. During this time, he continued to write and perform new music. In the early 1990s, he released three albums of Christian music through the Christian record label, Word Records, followed by several more released independently. In 1999, he moved to Chicago, where he works with Catholic teens in the United States and other parts of the world, speaking on matters of faith and justice, and giving concerts and youth retreats.

Perry Bamonte faz hoje 65 anos

 

Perry Archangelo Bamonte (London, 3 September 1960) is an English musician and illustrator, best known as a member of the rock band The Cure from 1990 to 2005, and again since 2022. 

 

Biography

Bamonte was born in London, England. His older brother Daryl worked as a tour manager for The Cure and Depeche Mode, and via this connection Perry joined the Cure's road crew in 1984. He eventually became the guitar tech and personal assistant for group leader Robert Smith. Already a guitarist, during this period Bamonte was taught to play piano and keyboards by Smith's sister Janet. When keyboardist Roger O'Donnell left the Cure in 1990, Bamonte was promoted to a full member of the band, playing both keyboards and guitar regularly, as well as six-string bass and percussion occasionally.

Bamonte's first album with the Cure was Wish in 1992, and he remained with the band for their next three albums. Due to the departure of guitarist Porl Thompson and the return of Roger O'Donnell during this period, Bamonte's duties for the band shifted to a stronger focus on guitar and less on keyboards. In 2005, Bamonte and O'Donnell were dismissed by Smith, who reportedly wanted to reinvent the band as a three-piece. Despite the abrupt dismissal and the lack of an official statement describing the reason, Bamonte and Smith remained on amicable terms.

Bamonte kept a low profile for several years, devoting his time to fly fishing and a career as an illustrator. He continues to contribute content and illustrations for the magazine Fly Culture. In 2012 he joined the supergroup Love Amongst Ruin as bassist and appeared on their 2015 album Lose Your Way. In 2019, Bamonte joined fellow members of the Cure, past and present, for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In a move that had not been previously announced, Bamonte rejoined the Cure in 2022 for the first performance of their extensive Lost World Tour, and has remained with the band since.

Em 2003, foi considerado o 38.º melhor guitarrista de todos os tempos pela revista norte-americana Rolling Stone.

Ricardo Camacho morreu há sete anos...

  

Ricardo Camacho (Funchal, 23 de maio de 1954 - Bélgica, 4 de julho de 2018) foi um médico especialista em imunohemoterapia e músico português, nascido na ilha da Madeira, fundador da banda Sétima Legião. Por volta dos 7 anos de idade entrou para a Academia de Música da Madeira onde fez a iniciação musical, solfejo e violino. Com 14 anos começou a tocar guitarra elétrica e formou a sua primeira banda. 

 

Carreira

Tinha 17 anos quando veio para Lisboa estudar medicina na Universidade de Lisboa. Considera que o meio musical no continente era muito mais retrógrado do que o que da ilha.

Trabalhou na Rádio Comercial onde foi realizador radiofónico de programas como "Rock Em Stock", de Luís Filipe Barros, ou "Mão na Música".

Foi um dos fundadores da editora Fundação Atlântica, com Pedro Ayres Magalhães e Miguel Esteves Cardoso, entre outros.

Lançou os Sétima Legião com quem colaborou, como produtor e teclista, no disco "A Um Deus Desconhecido". Depois passou a membro efetivo do grupo.

Produziu discos como "Foram Cardos, Foram Prosas" de Manuela Moura Guedes, "Estou Além" de António Variações, "Remar Remar" dos Xutos & Pontapés. Produziu ainda outros nomes como GNR, UHF ou Diva.

Depois do fim, não concretizado definitivamente, da Sétima Legião, em 1995, falou-se do seu projeto Condor, com Amândio Bastos, que não chegou a estrear-se em disco.

Passou por vários hospitais, como o IPO, na unidade de transplantes de medula, na oncologia pediátrica. Depois entrou para o Hospital Egas Moniz onde se dedicou à investigação da SIDA.

Morreu a 4 de julho de 2018. Estava internado na Bélgica e sofria de cancro do pulmão.

Mick Jones, guitarrista dos The Clash, nasceu há setenta anos...!

Michael Geoffrey Jones (Wandsworth, London, 26 June 1955) is a British musician, singer, songwriter, and record producer best known as the co-founder of the Clash, and as that group's guitarist until 1983. In 1984, he formed Big Audio Dynamite with Don Letts. Jones has played with the band Carbon/Silicon along with Tony James (formerly of Generation X and Sigue Sigue Sputnik) since 2002 and was part of the Gorillaz live band for a world tour in 2010–2011. In late 2011, Jones collaborated with Pete Wylie and members of the Farm to form the Justice Tonight Band.
