Florence Leontine Mary Welch (Londres, 28 de agosto de 1986) é uma música inglesa, cantora, compositora e produtora musical. Ela é a vocalista e compositora da banda de indie rock Florence and the Machine.

O álbum de estreia da banda Florence and the Machine, Lungs, foi lançado em 2009. Em 17 de janeiro de 2010, o álbum alcançou o topo de das paradas no Reino Unido após estar na lista por 28 semanas consecutivas. Lungs recebeu o Brit Award por Melhor Álbum Britânico em 2010. O segundo álbum de estúdio do grupo, Ceremonials, lançado em outubro de 2011, estreou em primeiro lugar no Reino Unido e em sexto nos Estados Unidos. O terceiro álbum da banda, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful foi lançado em 2015 com críticas positivas e ficou bem listada no Reino Unido e Estados Unidos. O quarto álbum da banda, High As Hope, foi lançado em 2018.

Jamie "Cookie" Cook (Sheffield, Inglaterra, 8 de julho de 1985) é o segundo mais velho e o principal guitarrista da banda Arctic Monkeys, de Sheffield. Como Alex Turner, Cook pediu um instrumento musical no Natal de 2001, recebendo uma guitarra elétrica. Jamie Cook ganhou fama por tocar uma Fender Telecaster vermelha, que teve impacto num amplificador num show ao vivo, e fez a banda apareceu no "Saturday Night Live".

Nicholas John Cester (Melbourne, 6 July 1979) is an Australian musician, singer, songwriter and guitarist, known for being the frontman and lead singer in rock band Jet alongside his younger brother Chris. Cester is also a founder of the Australian supergroup The Wrights. Jet's track "Are You Gonna Be My Girl", has won APRA Awards for 'Most Performed Australian Work Overseas' in 2006 and 2007.

Mark Sandman, vocalista dos Morphine, morreu há vinte e sete anos...

                                                   

Mark Sandman (Newton, 24 de setembro de 1952 - Palestrina, 3 de julho de 1999) foi um músico dos Estados Unidos. Fundou a banda de blues Treat Her Right, que lançou três discos: Treat Her Right (1986), Tied To The Tracks (1989) e What's Good For You (1991).

Inovou ao criar a banda Morphine, que fazia uma fusão vitoriosa de rock e jazz. Formada apenas por baixo, sax e bateria, além da intervenção eventual de alguns outros instrumentos, a música do grupo servia de base para que Sandman, com sua voz aveludada, cantasse as suas belas poesias.

Mark veio a falecer, em 1999, durante um show na Itália, vítima de um ataque cardíaco fulminante.

Roddy Bottum, teclista dos Faith No More, comemora hoje 63 anos

  
Roddy Bottum (nascido Roswell Christopher Bottum III, Los Angeles, 1 de julho de 1963) é um músico americano, mais conhecido como teclista da banda californiana de rock Faith No More.

 

Bottum estudou piano clássico desde muito jovem, até se mudar para São Francisco, com 18 anos. Em 1982 juntou-se aos seus amigos de escola, Billy Gould e Mike Bordin, formando os Faith No More, grupo em que permaneceu até ao seu fim, em 1998. Após o álbum Angel Dust, lançado em 1992, no entanto, a sua participação na banda foi drasticamente reduzida. Numa entrevista lançada em edição especial em vinil do álbum King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime, Bottum explicou que suas contribuições diminuíram devido à morte de seu pai, naquele mesmo ano.

Entre 1994 e 1995 Bottum formou o grupo Imperial Teen, com a baterista Lynn Perko, outra veterana da cena musical da Bay Area. A banda ficou conhecida pelo single "Yoo Hoo", utilizado no filme Jawbreaker, de 1999.

Em 2009 Bottum retornou aos Faith No More para uma turnê de reunião. Em 2015 gravou junto com a banda um álbum inédito, depois de 18 anos, chamado Sol Invictus.

Mark Stoermer nasceu há 49 anos

   

Mark August Stoermer é o baixista da banda de rock alternativo norte-americana The Killers, além de ter sido músico de turnê da banda The Smashing Pumpkins.

 

Mark Stoermer nasceu a 28 de junho de 1977, fez o ensino secundário na Chaparral High School, em Las Vegas, onde tocou trompete no conjunto de jazz da escola. Mais tarde teve aulas de música e estudou Filosofia na Universidade do Nevada, em Las Vegas, onde tocou na banda da universidade.

Trabalhou num hospital e, durante esse tempo, ouviu muita música dos The Rolling Stones, Talking Heads e Television no rádio do seu carro.

As suas bandas anteriores incluem os Habit Rouge e os Negative Ponies, onde tocou guitarra. Entrou nos The Killers, o seu principal projeto, em 2002, como baixista temporário e passou o ano ainda na banda. Apenas se tornou membro oficial do grupo quando Ronnie Vannucci entrou na banda para tocar bateria. As suas principais influências incluem The Beatles, The Who, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Miles Davis e David Bowie. Ele gosta dos livros de Henry Miller.

Mesmo sendo o pai de Stoermer um cidadão australiano, Mark nunca havia visitado a Austrália antes da turnê de 2004 dos The Killers, para divulgar o seu álbum Hot Fuss. Ele é de ascendência alemã e tem dupla-cidadania, dos Estados Unidos da América e da Austrália.

Mark também toca guitarra nas apresentações ao vivo de For Reasons Unknown, single do segundo álbum dos The Killers, Sam's Town.

 

Mark cita influências como Noel Redding dos Jimi Hendrix Experience, John Entwistle dos The Who e Paul McCartney. Ele também lista bandas que são suas influências, como: The Cure, U2 e New Order.

Hope Sandoval (Los Angeles, 24 de junho de 1966) é uma cantora norte-americana, que foi vocalista da banda Mazzy Star e mais tarde dos Hope Sandoval & the Warm Inventions. Sandoval participou de concertos, bem como colaborou com outros artistas, incluindo os Massive Attack, para quem ela cantou "Paradise Circus", no álbum de 2010 intitulado Heligoland e, em 2016, cantou "The Spoils", single da mesma banda.

Gordon Moakes, músico dos Bloc Party, nasceu há cinquenta anos...!

Gordon Peter Moakes (Newport Pagnell, 22 June 1976) is an English musician, best known as the bassist of rock band Young Legionnaire and former member of indie rock band Bloc Party. 

   

Bloc Party

Moakes became a member of Bloc Party after responding to an advertisement placed in the NME music magazine by Kele Okereke and Russell Lissack, who were seeking a bassist. Although not originally a bassist, Moakes was the only player the band auditioned who was able to play the bassline for a song that Okereke and Lissack had presented.  In 2002, Moakes, Lissack, and Okereke formed the first incarnation of Bloc Party – then known as The Angel Range – and played shows across London. Moakes also ran and updated the band's website at the time.

Moakes shared co-writing credits with Okereke on some of the band's earlier lyrics. In the early days of the band, he contributed lyrics mostly to the band's more political songs, and he composed the song "Diet". Moakes added new instruments to his repertoire on Bloc Party's second and third albums, A Weekend in the City and Intimacy respectively. He played drums on "Sunday", electronic drums on "Ares", glockenspiel on "Waiting for the 7.18" and "SRXT" and a microKORG synthesizer on "Flux". His voice can be heard in many of the band's songs, often in contrast with Okereke's lead vocals.

Moakes remixed the band's song "Talons" from their album Intimacy. It was featured as a part of the single download as well as appearing as the B-side to its vinyl release.

In 2015, Moakes confirmed that he had left the band to focus on Young Legionnaire. He was replaced by Justin Harris later in the year. Moakes resided in Austin, Texas for several years but currently resides in London, England with his wife and children.

 

Other works

Moakes worked with yourcodenameis:milo on the track "Wait a Minute" from the album Print Is Dead Vol 1. "Wait a Minute" was released on a limited edition 7" single on 4 October 2006. Moakes designed the cover art.

In December 2009, Moakes, Paul Mullen (vocalist and guitarist of The Automatic) and William Bowerman (drummer of La Roux) worked in the studio together on a new side project, with Bloc Party on hiatus and both The Automatic and La Roux inactive over the Christmas break. In January 2010, the group were revealed to be named Young Legionnaire and were set to play their first show at the end of January in London.

Brandon Richard Flowers (Henderson, Nevada, June 21, 1981) is an American musician, singer, songwriter, and philanthropist. He serves as the lead singer, keyboardist, and occasional bassist of the Las Vegas-based rock band the Killers.

The Queen Is Dead is the third studio album by the English rock band the Smiths, released on 16 June 1986 by Rough Trade Records. Following the release of their second album Meat Is Murder, the Smiths retreated to Greater Manchester to begin work on new material, with Johnny Marr and Morrissey writing extensively at Marr's home in Bowdon as the band sought to escape the pressures of London and their label Rough Trade. The album was produced by Morrissey and Marr, with engineering by Stephen Street; its music blends indie rock and post-punk. Recording for the album took place between July 1985 and December of that year, with sessions held at RAK Studios in London, Jacobs Studios in Farnham and Drone Studios in Manchester.

The Queen Is Dead spent 22 weeks on the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number two. It reached number 70 on the US Billboard Top Pop Albums chart and was certified Gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in late 1990. The album received widespread critical acclaim, praised for Marr's guitar work and Morrissey's witty and emotional lyricism. It has been included in multiple lists of the greatest albums of all time.
