Shane MacGowan nasceu há 66 anos...

Shane Patrick Lysaght MacGowan (Pembury, 25 December 1957 – Dublin, 30 November 2023) was an Irish singer and songwriter who was best known as the lead singer and songwriter of Celtic punk band the Pogues. Many of his songs were influenced by Irish nationalism, Irish history, the experiences of the Irish diaspora (particularly in England and the United States), and London life in general. He often cited the 19th-century Irish poet James Clarence Mangan and playwright Brendan Behan as influences.

Born in Kent, England, to Irish parents, MacGowan joined the punk band The Nipple Erectors before founding the Pogues in 1982. He drew upon his Irish heritage when founding The Pogues and changed his early punk style for a more traditional sound with tutoring from his extended family. Between 1985 and 1987, he co-wrote the Christmas hit singles "Fairytale of New York", which he performed with Kirsty MacColl. Other notable songs he performed with The Pogues include "Dirty Old Town", "Sally MacLennane" and "The Irish Rover". In the following years MacGowan and The Pogues released several albums including their most critically acclaimed album, If I Should Fall from Grace with God (1988), which also marked the high point of the band's commercial success.

After The Pogues fired MacGowan for unprofessional behaviour mid-tour, he formed a new band, Shane MacGowan and The Popes, with whom he recorded two studio albums. In 2001, MacGowan rejoined The Pogues for reunion shows and remained with the group until 2014. MacGowan produced his own solo material and collaborated with artists such as The Dubliners, Joe Strummer, Nick Cave, Steve Earle, Sinéad O'Connor and Ronnie Drew. Throughout his life MacGowan suffered physically from years of binge drinking. In 2001, MacGowan coauthored the autobiographical book A Drink with Shane MacGowan with his then partner, later wife, Victoria Mary Clarke.

It was reported in July 2023 that MacGowan was hospitalised in the intensive care unit (ICU). Following treatment for an infection, he was discharged in November. He made his last public statement on November 16, 2023, complimenting Travis Kelce's cover of "Fairytale of New York". MacGowan died, at home with his wife by his side, on 30 November 2023.

Following MacGowan's death, Michael D. Higgins, President of Ireland, said: "Shane will be remembered as one of music’s greatest lyricists. So many of his songs would be perfectly crafted poems, if that would not have deprived us of the opportunity to hear him sing them. The genius of Shane’s contribution includes the fact that his songs capture within them, as Shane would put it, the measure of our dreams - of so many worlds, and particularly those of love, of the emigrant experience and of facing the challenges of that experience with authenticity and courage, and of living and seeing the sides of life that so many turn away from."

Phil Ochs nasceu há oitenta e três anos...

Philip David
"Phil" Ochs (El Paso, Texas, December 19, 1940 – Far Rockaway, New York City, April 9, 1976) was an American protest singer (or, as he preferred, a topical singer) and songwriter who was known for his sharp wit, sardonic humor, earnest humanism, political activism, insightful and alliterative lyrics, and distinctive voice. He wrote hundreds of songs in the 1960s and '70s and released eight albums.

Ochs performed at many political events during the 1960s counterculture era, including anti-Vietnam War and civil rights rallies, student events, and organized labor events over the course of his career, in addition to many concert appearances at such venues as New York City's Town Hall and Carnegie Hall. Politically, Ochs described himself as a "left social democrat" who became an "early revolutionary" after the protests at the 1968 Democratic National Convention in Chicago led to a police riot, which had a profound effect on his state of mind.

After years of prolific writing in the 1960s, Ochs's mental stability declined in the 1970s. He eventually succumbed to a number of problems including bipolar disorder and alcoholism, and died by suicide in 1976.

Some of Ochs's major musical influences were Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Bob Gibson, Faron Young, and Merle Haggard. His best-known songs include "I Ain't Marching Anymore", "Changes", "Crucifixion", "Draft Dodger Rag", "Love Me, I'm a Liberal", "Outside of a Small Circle of Friends", "Power and the Glory", "There but for Fortune", and "The War Is Over".

In the afternoon of July 16, 1981, Chapin was driving on the Long Island Expressway en route to perform at a free benefit concert at Eisenhower Park in East Meadow, New York, that evening. At 12:27 p.m., Chapin had reportedly put on his emergency flashers, decelerated his vehicle's speed to 15 mph, and had weaved from the far-left lane to the center lane, to the left lane, and then back to the center lane before his vehicle was struck from behind by a semi-trailer truck. The force of the collision crushed the rear of the car, ruptured the fuel tank, and dragged the car several hundred feet on the pavement. Passers-by managed to help the unconscious Chapin out of his engulfed 1975 Volkswagen Rabbit. He was immediately taken by helicopter from the crash site outside Jericho, New York, to the nearby Nassau County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 1:05 p.m. due to internal bleeding.

Chapin's widow won a $12 million decision in a negligence lawsuit against Supermarkets General, the owners of the truck involved.

Chapin is buried in the Huntington Rural Cemetery in Huntington, New York. His epitaph is taken from his 1978 song "I Wonder What Would Happen to This World":

Oh if a man tried
To take his time on Earth
And prove before he died
What one man's life could be worth
I wonder what would happen
to this world

Stevens, a former art student, created the artwork featured on the record's cover.

That same year, Tea for the Tillerman was re-released as a 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition. Along with five discs, the Super Deluxe Edition also includes a Blu-ray containing music videos, live videos, and audio of the 2020 mixes of the original album, as well as a 12" vinyl record of live recordings by Stevens in 1970 at the Troubadour, Los Angeles.

Música dos Beatles adequada à data - II

Música dos Beatles adequada à data - I

The Beatles: as edições originais do álbum, em 1968, eram numeradas no canto inferior direito

Ele participou de todos os álbuns do grupo, exceto This Was.

Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll: Too Young to Die!.
