Paranoid, o segundo álbum de estúdio da banda de heavy metal Black Sabbath, foi  lançado em 18 de setembro de 1970 no Reino Unido. O álbum chegou ao topo das paradas musicais britânicas, tornou-se o mais vendido da banda, e possui alguns de seus maiores sucessos, como "Iron Man", "War Pigs" e "Paranoid". O disco é usualmente considerado um dos mais quintessenciais e influentes da história do heavy metal, sendo incluído na lista dos 200 álbuns definitivos no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Em 2017, foi eleito o melhor álbum de metal de todos os tempos pela revista Rolling Stone.

Neil Peart, o baterista dos Rush, nasceu há setenta e quatro anos...

   

Neil Ellwood Peart (Hamilton, 12 de setembro de 1952 - Santa Mónica, 7 de janeiro de 2020), foi um músico canadiano, baterista da banda de rock progressivo Rush, e escritor. Este foi considerado por muitos e pela revista Rolling Stone o melhor baterista de todos os tempos.

Em termos musicais, Peart recebeu vários prémios pelas suas performances e gravações e foi extensivamente considerado por sua resistência, força, habilidade e virtude. Morreu a 7 de janeiro de 2020, vítima de um cancro no cérebro, com o qual lutava há três anos.

Joe Perry, guitarrista dos Aerosmith, celebra hoje 76 anos

Anthony Joseph Perry (Lawrence, 10 de setembro de 1950) é um guitarrista dos Estados Unidos da América. Ele é o principal guitarrista solo e um dos fundadores da banda de hard rock Aerosmith. Foi considerado o 84º melhor guitarrista de todos os tempos pela revista norte-americana Rolling Stone e, em 2001, entrou para o Rock and Roll Hall of Fame com o resto dos membros dos Aerosmith. Em 2013, recebeu, juntamente com o parceiro musical Steven Tyler, o ASCAP Founders Award e entrou para o Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Por parte de pai, Perry vem de uma família de portugueses, originários da Madeira. O seu avô foi obrigado a mudar o sobrenome da família de 'Pereira' para 'Perry', devido a lei de emigração nos Estados Unidos. Por parte de mãe, o guitarrista vem de uma família de italianos, provenientes de Nápoles.

Brad Wilk, baterista dos Rage Against the Machine, nasceu há 58 anos

Brad Wilk (Portland, Oregon, September 5, 1968) is an American drummer. He is best known as a member of the rock bands Rage Against the Machine (1991–2000, 2007–2011, 2019–present), Audioslave (2001–2007, 2017), and Prophets of Rage (2016–2019).

Wilk started his career as a drummer for Greta in 1990, and helped co-found Rage Against the Machine with Tom Morello and Zack de la Rocha in August 1991. Following that band's breakup in October 2000, Wilk, Morello, Rage Against the Machine bassist Tim Commerford and Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell formed the supergroup Audioslave, which broke up in 2007. From 2016 to 2019, he played in the band Prophets of Rage, with Commerford, Morello, Chuck D, B-Real and DJ Lord. He has played with Rage Against the Machine since their reunion.

Wilk has also performed drums on English metal band Black Sabbath's final album 13, released in June 2013. He briefly played with Pearl Jam shortly after the release of their debut album Ten and had previously been in the band Indian Style with Eddie Vedder.

Danny Worsnop, vocalista dos We Are Harlot e Asking Alexandria celebra hoje 36 anos

   

Daniel (Danny) Robert Worsnop (Yorkshire, 4 de setembro de 1990), mais conhecido como Danny Worsnop, é um cantor e compositor britânico, vocalista da banda de rock inglesa Asking Alexandria. Tem uma carreira a solo no country e é vocalista do supergrupo americano de hard rock We Are Harlot.

Danny co-fundou os Asking Alexandria com o guitarrista Ben Bruce, em 2008. A banda já lançou seis álbuns de estúdio, dois EP, um álbum de remixes e uma curta-metragem. Ele já trabalhou com artistas como I See Stars, com One Last Breath, Memphis May Fire e Breathe Carolina, fornecendo vocais em diversas canções. Com o passar do tempo, Danny veio tendo mudanças no seu vocais limpos e guturais, tendo um vocal agressivo e profundo de metalcore no início de sua carreira, hoje tendo um alcance vocal drive alto e rouco, mais voltado para o hard rock.

Steve Jones, guitarrista dos Sex Pistols, nasceu há setenta e um anos

Stephen Philip Jones (Shepherd's Bush, London, 3 September 1955) is an English guitarist, best known as a member of the punk band Sex Pistols. Following the split of the Sex Pistols, he formed the Professionals with former bandmate Paul Cook. He has released two solo albums, and worked with Johnny Thunders, Iggy Pop, Cheap Trick, Bob Dylan and Thin Lizzy. In 1995, he formed the short-lived supergroup Neurotic Outsiders with members of Guns N' Roses and Duran Duran. Jones was ranked #97 in Rolling Stone's 2015 list of the "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time".

Rudolf Schenker, fundador dos Scorpions, nasceu há 78 anos

Rudolf Schenker (Hannover, 31 de agosto de 1948) é um guitarrista e compositor alemão, um dos pilares da banda de hard rock alemã Scorpions e responsável por grande parte das melodias da banda. Rudolf Schenker fundou a banda em 1965, com o seu irmão mais novo, o guitarrista a solo Michael Schenker, que tinha então apenas 10 anos de idade, mas então já um virtuoso no instrumento.

Gene Hoglan nasceu há 59 anos

   

Eugene "Gene" Victor Hoglan II (Dallas, Texas, 31 de agosto de 1967) é um músico americano conhecido por ter tocado em inúmeros bandas de heavy metal como baterista. Hoglan começou a sua carreira musical como roadie (como engenheiro de iluminação) da banda Slayer, onde também tocava a bateria durante a passagem de som.

O músico aparece em 2° na lista dos 'Dez Melhores Bateristas de Metal' do site OC Weekly. Também ficou em 17° lugar na lista dos "50 melhores bateristas de hard rock e metal de todos os tempos" do site Loudwire.

Jimi Jamison, vocalista dos Survivor, morreu há doze anos...

   

Jimmy Wayne "Jimi" Jamison (Durant, Mississippi, 23 de agosto de 1951 - Memphis, Tennessee, 31 de agosto de 2014) foi um cantor e compositor norte-americano que ficou conhecido como vocalista da banda Survivor.

   

Carreira

Em 1984, Jamison substitui Dave Bickler como vocalista do Survivor, gravando a canção "The Moment of Truth", que fez parte da banda sonora do filme Karaté Kid. No ano seguinte gravou o hit "Burning Heart", tema do filme Rocky IV, de Sylvester Stallone.
Em 1989, Jamison deixou a banda para fazer carreira solo. Gravou no mesmo ano a canção "I'm Always Here", que fez parte da banda sonora da série televisiva Baywatch ("SOS Malibu" no Brasil; "Marés Vivas" em Portugal).
Em outubro de 2011, lançou um álbum, em parceria com Bobby Kimball, (vocalista do Toto) intitulado Kimball/Jamison.

 

Morte

Jamison morreu na sua casa, em Memphis, nos Estados Unidos, no dia 31 de agosto de 2014, após sofrer um ataque cardíaco. Ele tinha apenas 63 anos.

Rob Halford nasceu há setenta e cinco anos

     

Robert John Arthur "Rob" Halford (Sutton Coldfield, 25 August 1951) is an English singer and songwriter, who is best known as the lead vocalist for the Grammy Award-winning heavy metal band Judas Priest and famed for his powerful wide ranging operatic voice. AllMusic says of Halford: "There have been few vocalists in the history of heavy metal whose singing style has been as influential and instantly recognizable", possessing a voice which is "able to effortlessly alternate between a throaty growl and an ear-splitting falsetto". Halford was voted number 33 in the greatest voices in rock by Planet Rock listeners in 2009. In addition to his work with Judas Priest, he has been involved with several side projects, including Fight, 2wo and Halford. In 1998, he came out as gay in an interview with MTV news making him the first openly gay singer in heavy metal music.

Vivian Patrick Campbell (Lisburn, 25 August 1962) is a Northern Irish guitarist. He came to prominence in the early 1980s as a member of Dio, and has been a member of Def Leppard since 1992 (replacing Steve Clark after his death). Campbell has also worked with Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, Sweet Savage, Trinity, Riverdogs, and Shadow King.
