O compositor Bernie Taupin nasceu há 75 anos

Bernard John Taupin (Sleaford, Lincolnshire, 22 May 1950) is an English-American songwriter, singer and visual artist. He is best known for his long-term collaboration with musician Elton John, a songwriting partnership that is one of the most successful in history. Taupin has written the lyrics for most of John's songs.

 

In 1967, Taupin answered an advertisement for talent that was placed in the New Musical Express by Liberty Records A&R man Ray Williams. Elton John answered the same advert. Neither Taupin nor John passed the audition for Liberty Records. Elton told the man behind the desk that he could not write lyrics, so the man handed Elton a sealed envelope from the pile of people submitting lyrics, which he opened on the London Underground ride home. The envelope contained poems by Taupin.

The duo have collaborated on more than thirty albums to date. The team took some time off from each other for a while between 1977 and 1979, while Taupin worked with other songwriters, including Alice Cooper, and John worked with other lyricists, including Gary Osborne and Tom Robinson. (The 1978 single-only A side "Ego" was their only collaboration of note during the period, although John/Taupin B-sides such as "Lovesick" and "I Cry at Night" were issued with the respective singles "Song for Guy" and "Part-time Love" from the album A Single Man).

George Michael nasceu há sessenta e um anos...

George Michael, nome artístico de Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (Londres, 25 de junho de 1963 - Oxfordshire, 25 de dezembro de 2016), foi um cantor britânico que vendeu mais de 100 milhões de discos no mundo todo.

No dia 25 de dezembro de 2016, George Michael foi encontrado já sem vida, na sua cama, por seu namorado Fadi Fawaz. Michael Lippman, representante e amigo de Michael, revelou que o cantor morreu por causa de insuficiência cardíaca.

Alguns dias depois, Fawaz comentou no Twitter que George Michael se havia suicidado, após várias tentativas de suicídio. Posteriormente, Fawaz negou os tweets, alegando que as postagens foram feitas por hackers.

Nas semanas que se seguiram, Fawaz foi interrogado e investigado pela polícia britânica. Concluiu-se que o cabeleireiro não teve qualquer envolvimento na morte do cantor.

Em 7 de março de 2017 foi finalizado o inquérito sobre a morte de George Michael. A equipa de legistas de Oxfordshire chegou à conclusão de que o cantor teve morte natural, devido à problemas no coração e no fígado.

Somente então o corpo do cantor foi entregue para a família realizar o velório e enterro. Após uma cerimónia fúnebre, privada e discreta, restrita a familiares e amigos próximos, o corpo de Michael finalmente foi sepultado em 29 de março, passados mais de três meses após a sua morte, no Cemitério Highgate, em Londres. No mesmo local estão os restos mortais da mãe do artista, que faleceu em 1997. Fadi Fawaz compareceu ao local, embora chegando atrasado. Por outro lado Kenny Goss, ex-companheiro do músico, esteve presente no enterro, assim como Andrew Ridgeley (ex-colega de Michael no duo Wham!).
