Donald Newton "Donnie" Van Zant (Jacksonville, 11 de junho de 1952) é um guitarrista e vocalista americano, mais conhecido como membro da banda 38 Special, que ajudou a fundar em 1974. O seu irmão mais velho era Ronnie Van Zant vocalista original da banda Lynyrd Skynyrd e que morreu num acidente de avião, em 1977, juntamente com outros dois membros da banda e outros três passageiros do avião. O seu irmão mais novo, Johnny Van Zant, é o vocalista atual dos Lynyrd Skynyrd, desde a sua reformulação em 1987.
Derek Trucks (Jacksonville, Florida, June 8, 1979) is an American guitarist, songwriter, and founder of The Derek Trucks Band. He became an official member of The Allman Brothers Band in 1999. In 2010, he formed the Tedeschi Trucks Band with his wife, blues singer/guitarist Susan Tedeschi. His musical style encompasses several genres and he has twice appeared on Rolling Stone's list of 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time. He is the nephew of the late Butch Trucks, drummer for The Allman Brothers.
Começou como roadie da banda em 1970, até que em 1972, durante o aquecimento de um show do Lynyrd em Jacksonville, tocou uma versão de "Free Bird" no teclado. O vocalista Ronnie Van Zant ficou tão impressionado que imediatamente o convidou para ser o teclista oficial do grupo.
Sobreviveu ao desastre aéreo que abateu a banda em 1977, sofrendo apenas ferimentos no rosto. Entre essa época e 1987, esteve numa banda chamada Vision.
Voltou aos Lynyrd em 1987 para uma turnê-tributo, permanecendo com a banda até à sua morte, em 28 de janeiro de 2009, em Orange Park, Flórida.
John Cameron Fogerty e o seu irmão, Tom Fogerty, formaram uma banda no final dos anos 50 que se chamava Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets e em meados dos anos 60 trocaram de nome para The Golliwogs.
Em 1968, já com o nome de Creedence Clearwater Revival, a banda editou o seu primeiro álbum que continha o grande êxito, Suzie Q.
Em 1971,
devido a tensões entre ambos, Tom deixa o grupo. John tenta manter o
grupo unido que ainda edita mais um álbum com o título de Mardi Gras que seria no entanto, o último.
Em 2003, a Revista Rolling Stone incluiu John Fogerty no nº 40 da sua lista dos melhores guitarristas de todos os tempos.
Em 1999, foi-lhe diagnosticada hepatite C e vinha a enfrentar problemas de saúde desde então, tendo passado por um transplante de fígado, em 2010. Morreu a 27 de maio de 2017, aos 69 anos, em sua casa em Savannah, Geórgia, devido a complicações causadas por um cancro no fígado.
Joseph Michael "Dusty" Hill (Dallas, May 19, 1949 – Houston, July
28, 2021) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known
as the bassist and secondary lead vocalist of the American rock group ZZ Top; he also played keyboards with the band. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of ZZ Top, in 2004.
Second Helping reached #12 on the Billboard album charts. The RIAA certified it Gold on September 20, 1974, and Double Platinum on July 21, 1987.
Background
After the success of their debut album, (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd), Lynyrd Skynyrd's fan base continued to grow rapidly throughout 1973, largely due to their opening slot on the Who's Quadrophenia tour in the United States. Second Helping features King, Collins and Rossington all collaborating with Ronnie Van Zant on the songwriting, and cemented the band's breakthrough.
Critical reception
Reviewing for Rolling Stone in 1974, Gordon Fletcher said Lynyrd Skynyrd performs a consistent style of Southern music-influenced blues rock similar to the Allman Brothers Band
but lacks that group's "sophistication and professionalism. If a song
doesn’t feel right to the Brothers, they work on it until it does; if it
isn’t right to Lynyrd Skynyrd, they are more likely to crank up their
amps and blast their way through the bottleneck." Fletcher concluded
that Second Helping is distinct from (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) "only by a certain mellowing out that indicates they may eventually acquire a level of savoirfaire to realize their many capabilities".
Robert Christgau was also lukewarm in Creem,
saying Lynyrd Skynyrd is "still a substantial, tasteful band, but I
have a hunch they blew their best stuff on the first platter."
Christgau warmed to the album later, however, reappraising it in Christgau's Record Guide: Rock Albums of the Seventies
(1981); he observed "infectious putdowns of rock businessmen, rock
journalists, and heroin", and "great formula" in general: "When it
rocks, three guitarists and a keyboard player pile elementary riffs and
feedback noises into dense combinations broken by preplanned solos,
while at quieter moments the spare vocabulary of the best Southern folk
music is evoked or just plain duplicated." In a retrospective review for AllMusic, Stephen Thomas Erlewine said Second Helping "replicated all the strengths" of the first album's expert Southern rock "but was a little tighter and a little more professional." Houston Press named it in #2 on its list "Five Essential Boogie-Rock Albums".
Wilkeson died in his sleep on July 27, 2001, at age 49 at the
Sawgrass Marriott Resort & Beach Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.
He was pronounced dead by St Johns County Fire Rescue Paramedic,
Charlie Galambos. Galambos reports that leaving the scene moments after
pronouncing Wilkeson dead, news had already leaked to the media, as he
listened to the report on local FM radio. Wilkeson was in town to
address charges of driving under the influence, for which he had been
cited earlier that year. A medical examiner reported that Wilkeson was
suffering from chronic liver and lung disease and died of natural
causes.
Wilkeson's death put the group in a difficult position since an
agreement with Ronnie Van Zant's widow, Judy Jenness, mandated that at
least three of Skynyrd's longtime members would have to appear in order
for the band to use the name Lynyrd Skynyrd. Jenness waived this
proviso, and the group continued with replacement bassist Ean Evans.
Lynyrd Skynyrd dedicated the song "Mad Hatter" from their 2003 album Vicious Cycle to Wilkeson's memory.

Van Zant formou os Lynyrd Skynyrd no verão de 1964 com amigos e colegas de escola: Allen Collins (guitarra), Gary Rossington (guitarra), Larry Junstrom (baixo), e Bob Burns (baterista). O nome Lynyrd Skynyrd foi inspirado num professor que tinham na escola: Leonard Skinner, que não gostava de estudantes com cabelos longos.
Van Zant casou duas vezes. O seu primeiro casamento foi com Nadine
Inscoe e desse casamento nasceu a sua primeira filha, Tammy Van Zant.
Casou pela segunda vez com Judy Seymour e teve a sua segunda filha,
Melody Van Zant. Van Zant era conhecido por ser supersticioso; odiava
cobras e detestava voar.
Morte
No dia 20 de outubro de 1977 o avião Convair 240 que transportava toda a banda de Greenville, South Carolina para Baton Rouge, Louisiana caiu em Gillsburg, Mississippi.
Nesse acidente morreram Van Zant, os membros da banda Steve Gaines e
Cassie Gaines, um produtor assistente da banda, o piloto e o
co-piloto. Os restante elementos da banda sobreviveram, mas ficaram seriamente
feridos.
Ronnie sempre disse às pessoas mais próximas que ele não viveria até
aos seus 30 anos e que gostaria de morrer com as suas botas.
Estranhamente, morreu 3 meses antes de seu trigésimo aniversário.
O irmão mais novo de Ronnie, Johnny Van Zant tornou-se o novo vocalista da banda quando ela se reuniu novamente, em 1987.

Zakk Wylde (nome artístico de Jeffrey Phillip Wiedlandt; Bayonne, 14 de janeiro de 1967) é um músico e atoramericano, célebre por ter sido guitarrista da banda de Ozzy Osbourne, ícone do heavy metal
que o ajudou a se projetar como um dos mais famosos músicos do género
na atualidade. Zakk também encontrou o sucesso com a sua própria banda,
o Black Label Society, onde exerce a função de frontman, compondo e cantando as suas próprias músicas, sendo presença frequente no Tour do Ozzfest e recentemente em festivais europeus.
Gibbons tem feito participações em espetáculos de outros artistas e atuado na televisão em diversos programas, como a série Bones. Foi colocado no lugar 32 na lista de 2011 da revista Rolling Stone dos 100 Melhores Guitarristas de todos os tempos.
Billy Gibbons aparece nalguns episódios da série Bones, fazendo o papel de si mesmo (como pai da personagem Angela Montenegro) e teve uma pequena participação na série Two and a half men.

Morreu em 5 de março de 2023, aos 71 anos. A causa da morte não foi
informada, o músico sofreu com diversos problemas cardíacos nos últimos
anos e em 2021 passou por uma cirurgia de emergência.
