Billy Gibbons, cantor e guitarrista dos ZZ Top, celebra hoje 75 anos...!

 
William Frederick Gibbons mais conhecido como Billy Gibbons (Houston, 16 de dezembro de 1949) apelidado de Reverend Willie G, é um cantor, compositor e guitarrista americano da banda ZZ Top. Foi considerado o 32º maior guitarrista de todos os tempos pela revista norte-americana Rolling Stone.

Gibbons toca uma guitarra Gibson Les Paul de 1959, que ele apelidou de Pearly Gates.

Gibbons tem feito participações em espetáculos de outros artistas e atuado na televisão em diversos programas, como a série Bones. Foi colocado no lugar 32 na lista de 2011 da revista Rolling Stone dos 100 Melhores Guitarristas de todos os tempos.

Billy Gibbons aparece nalguns episódios da série Bones, fazendo o papel de si mesmo (como pai da personagem Angela Montenegro) e teve uma pequena participação na série Two and a half men.

Gregg Allman nasceu há setenta e sete anos...

 

  

Gregory Lenoir Allman (Nashville, 8 de dezembro de 1947 - Savannah, 27 de maio de 2017) foi um cantor, guitarrista, teclista e compositor norte-americano, membro fundador da banda The Allman Brothers Band. Ele foi introduzido juntamente com sua banda no Salão da Fama e Museu do Rock and Roll em 1995. Está em 70º lugar na lista dos 100 maiores vocalistas de todos os tempos" pela revista Rolling Stone.

Em 1999, foi-lhe diagnosticada hepatite C e vinha a enfrentar problemas de saúde desde então, tendo passado por um transplante de fígado em 2010. Morreu a 27 de maio de 2017, aos 69 anos, em sua casa em Savannah, Geórgia, devido a complicações causadas por um cancro no fígado.

Gary Robert Rossington (Jacksonville, 4 de dezembro de 1951 – Milton,5 de março de 2023) foi um guitarrista norte-americano, membro fundador da banda de southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd. Foi também membro fundador da The Rossington-Collins Band, juntamente com o guitarrista Allen Collins.

Gary Rossington e sua esposa Dale Krantz Rossington tiveram duas filhas, Mary e Annie. O seu projeto secundário, a Rossington Band, gravou os seguintes álbuns: Returned to the Scene of the Crime, 1986 e Love Your Man em 1988.

Rossington foi introduzido ao Rock and Roll Hall of Fame como um dos membros do Lynyrd Skynyrd em 2006. Morreu em 5 de março de 2023, aos 71 anos. A causa da morte não foi informada, o músico sofreu com diversos problemas cardíacos nos últimos anos e em 2021 passou por uma cirurgia de emergência.

Infância

Duane Allman nasceu em Nashville, Tennessee. Quando Duane tinha apenas três anos de idade e sua família vivia nos arredores de Norfolk, Virginia, o seu pai, Willis Allman, sargento do Exército Americano, foi assassinado. Geraldine "Mama A" voltou então com a família para Nashville. Em 1957 eles mudaram-se novamente para Daytona Beach, Florida. Em 1960, ele ficou motivado a aprender a tocar viola, por influência do seu irmão, Gregg Allman, que há pouco havia começado, após ver um vizinho a tocar country music numa viola acústica.

Outro evento importante ocorreu em 1959, quando Duane e Gregg estavam a visitar familiares em Nashville. Eles foram a um show de rock 'n' roll, no qual a lenda dos blues, B.B. King estava a apresentar-se e simplesmente caíram na magia da sua música. Gregg lembrava-se que logo após Duane acrescentou: "Nós precisamos de entrar nisto."

    

Morte

Duane foi vítima de um acidente de moto, meses antes do lançamento e do sucesso de At Fillmore East. A colisão entre a sua mota Harley-Davidson e um camião ocorreu em Macon, a 29 de outubro de 1971, atirando-o para fora da moto, que caiu sobre o seu seu corpo e derrapou, causando-lhe danos severos nos órgãos internos. Duane foi rapidamente levado ao hospital e operado, porém não resistiu, morrendo algumas horas depois, poucas semanas antes do seu vigésimo quinto aniversário.

Encontra-se sepultado no Rose Hill Cemetery, Macon, Condado de Bibb, Geórgia, nos Estados Unidos.

Solo or with the Heartbreakers, he had hit albums from the 1970s through the 2010s and sold more than 80 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Petty was honored as MusiCares Person of the Year in February 2017 for his contributions to music and for his philanthropy. He also had a minor acting career, most notably starring in a recurring role as the voice of Elroy "Lucky" Kleinschmidt in the animated comedy series King of the Hill from 2004 to the show's end in 2009.

Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" Van Zant (Jacksonville, Flórida, 15 de janeiro de 1948 – Gillsburg, Mississippi, 20 de outubro de 1977) foi o vocalista, compositor e membro fundador da banda de southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd.

    

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Van Zant formou os Lynyrd Skynyrd no verão de 1964 com amigos e colegas de escola: Allen Collins (guitarra), Gary Rossington (guitarra), Larry Junstrom (baixo), e Bob Burns (baterista). O nome Lynyrd Skynyrd foi inspirado num professor que tinham na escola: Leonard Skinner, que não gostava de estudantes com cabelos longos.

O reconhecimento nacional da banda deu-se em 1973 com o lançamento do álbum (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) com algumas das músicas favoritas dos fãs como: "I Ain't The One", "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man" e "Freebird". A música que se tornou mais conhecida da banda foi "Sweet Home Alabama" do álbum Second Helping

  

Vida Pessoal

Van Zant casou duas vezes. O seu primeiro casamento foi com Nadine Inscoe e desse casamento nasceu a sua primeira filha, Tammy Van Zant. Casou pela segunda vez com Judy Seymour e teve a sua segunda filha, Melody Van Zant. Van Zant era conhecido por ser supersticioso; odiava cobras e detestava voar.

  

Morte

No dia 20 de outubro de 1977 o avião Convair 240 que transportava toda a banda de Greenville, South Carolina para Baton Rouge, Louisiana caiu em Gillsburg, Mississippi. Nesse acidente morreram Van Zant, os membros da banda Steve Gaines e Cassie Gaines, um produtor assistente da banda, o piloto e o co-piloto. Os restante elementos da banda sobreviveram, mas seriamente feridos.

Ronnie sempre disse às pessoas mais próximas que ele não viveria até aos seus 30 anos e que gostaria de morrer com as suas botas. Estranhamente morreu 3 meses antes de seu trigésimo aniversário.

O irmão mais novo de Ronnie, Johnny Van Zant tornou-se o novo vocalista da banda quando ela se reuniu novamente em 1987.

Stephen Ray "Stevie Ray" Vaughan (Dallas, 3 de outubro de 1954 - East Troy, 27 de agosto de 1990) foi um guitarrista, cantor e compositor de blues elétrico norte-americano. Era o líder da banda Double Trouble. Nascido em Dallas, Vaughan mudou-se para Austin com 17 anos, quando iniciou a sua carreira musical.

Foi uma importante figura do Texas Blues, um estilo musical caracterizado pelo swing e pela fusão do blues com o rock. Tornou-se um dos principais músicos do blues rock, com diversas aparições na televisão e álbuns lançados. O trabalho de Vaughan englobou diversos estilos, incluindo o jazz e baladas. Foi nomeado para doze Grammys, vencendo seis; em 2000, foi postumamente introduzido no Hall da Fama dos Blues.

Morreu a 27 de agosto de 1990, num acidente de helicóptero em East Troy, que também pôs fim à vida de alguns músicos da equipa de apoio de Eric Clapton.

Hugh Edward Thomasson Jr. (Buchanan, Virgínia,  13 de agosto de 1952 - Brooksville, Flórida, 9 de setembro de 2007) foi um guitarrista e cantor dos Estados Unidos da América mais conhecido como membro fundador da banda Outlaws e mais recentemente como guitarrista da banda de Southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Escreveu a maioria das músicas para os Outlaws, incluindo "Hurry Sundown", "There Goes Another Love Song," e "Green Grass and High Tides". Após a separação dos Outlaws, Thomasson entrou para os Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Thomasson morreu enquanto dormia, a 9 de setembro de 2007, aparentemente de ataque cardíaco, na sua casa, na Flórida.

The album was certified gold on December 18, 1974, and double platinum on July 21, 1987, by the RIAA. It peaked at 27 on the US Billboard 200 in 1975.

Joseph Michael "Dusty" Hill (Dallas, May 19, 1949 – Houston, July 28, 2021) was an American musician, singer, and songwriter, best known as the bassist and secondary lead vocalist of the American rock group ZZ Top; he also played keyboards with the band. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, as a member of ZZ Top, in 2004.

Allen Collins nasceu há 72 anos...

 

Larkin Allen Collins Jr. (Jacksonville, Florida, July 19, 1952 – Jacksonville, Florida, January 23, 1990) was an American guitarist, and one of the founding members of the Southern rock band Lynyrd Skynyrd. He co-wrote many of the band's songs with frontman and original lead singer Ronnie Van Zant.

On January 29, 1986, Collins was driving a new black Ford Thunderbird when he was involved in a car accident that claimed the life of his girlfriend, Debra Jean Watts, and paralyzed the guitarist from the waist down, with limited use of his arms and hands. Collins pleaded no contest to vehicular manslaughter as well as driving under the influence of alcohol. Due to his injuries, he would never play guitar on stage again.

Collins' last performance with Lynyrd Skynyrd was at the band's first reunion after the plane crash at the 1979 Volunteer Jam V in Nashville, Tennessee. All remaining members of Lynyrd Skynyrd reunited officially in 1987, but Collins served only as musical director, due to his paralysis. As part of his plea bargain for the 1986 accident, Collins addressed fans at every Skynyrd concert with an explanation of why he could not perform, citing the dangers of drinking and driving, as well as drugs and alcohol. Also because of Collins' accident, the band donated a sizable amount of concert proceeds from the 1987–88 tour to the Miami Project, which is involved in treatment of paralysis. Collins founded Roll For Rock Wheelchair Events and Benefit Concerts in 1988 to raise awareness and to provide opportunities for those living with spinal cord injuries and other physical disabilities.

Allen Collins died on January 23, 1990, from chronic pneumonia, a complication of the paralysis. He is buried beside his wife, in Jacksonville, Florida.

In 2006, Collins was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd.
