Gary Rossington nasceu há 74 anos...

       

Gary Robert Rossington (Jacksonville, 4 de dezembro de 1951 – Milton, 5 de março de 2023) foi um guitarrista norte-americano, membro fundador da banda de southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd. Foi também membro fundador da The Rossington-Collins Band, juntamente com o guitarrista Allen Collins.

Gary Rossington e sua esposa Dale Krantz Rossington tiveram duas filhas, Mary e Annie. O seu projeto secundário, a Rossington Band, gravou os seguintes álbuns: Returned to the Scene of the Crime, 1986 e Love Your Man em 1988.

Rossington foi introduzido no Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, como um dos membros dos Lynyrd Skynyrd em 2006. Morreu em 5 de março de 2023, aos 71 anos. A causa da morte não foi informada, o músico sofreu com diversos problemas cardíacos nos últimos anos e em 2021 passou por uma cirurgia de emergência.

Ronnie Van Zant, vocalista dos Lynyrd Skynyrd, nasceu há 73 anos

Ronald Wayne "Ronnie" Van Zant (Jacksonville, Flórida, 15 de janeiro de 1948 – Gillsburg, Mississippi, 20 de outubro de 1977) foi o vocalista, compositor e membro fundador da banda de southern rock Lynyrd Skynyrd.

   

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Van Zant formou os Lynyrd Skynyrd no verão de 1964 com amigos e colegas de escola: Allen Collins (guitarra), Gary Rossington (guitarra), Larry Junstrom (baixo), e Bob Burns (baterista). O nome Lynyrd Skynyrd foi inspirado num professor que tinham na escola: Leonard Skinner, que não gostava de estudantes com cabelos longos.

O reconhecimento nacional da banda deu-se em 1973, com o lançamento do álbum (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd) com algumas das músicas favoritas dos fãs como: "I Ain't The One", "Tuesday's Gone", "Gimme Three Steps", "Simple Man" e "Freebird". A música que se tornou mais conhecida da banda foi "Sweet Home Alabama" do álbum Second Helping

 

Vida Pessoal

Van Zant casou duas vezes. O seu primeiro casamento foi com Nadine Inscoe e desse casamento nasceu a sua primeira filha, Tammy Van Zant. Casou pela segunda vez com Judy Seymour e teve a sua segunda filha, Melody Van Zant. Van Zant era conhecido por ser supersticioso; odiava cobras e detestava voar.

 

Morte

No dia 20 de outubro de 1977 o avião Convair 240 que transportava toda a banda de Greenville, South Carolina para Baton Rouge, Louisiana caiu em Gillsburg, Mississippi. Nesse acidente morreram Van Zant, os membros da banda Steve Gaines e Cassie Gaines, um produtor assistente da banda, o piloto e o co-piloto. Os restante elementos da banda sobreviveram, mas seriamente feridos.

Ronnie sempre disse às pessoas mais próximas que ele não viveria até aos seus 30 anos e que gostaria de morrer com as suas botas. Estranhamente morreu 3 meses antes de seu trigésimo aniversário.

O irmão mais novo de Ronnie, Johnny Van Zant tornou-se o novo vocalista da banda quando ela se reuniu novamente em 1987.
