Andrew Michael Rourke (born in Manchester, on 17 January 1964) is an English musician, best known as the bassist for The Smiths, an english rock band formed in Manchester in 1982. The band consisted of vocalist Morrissey, guitarist Johnny Marr, Rourke and drummer Mike Joyce.

Critics have called them the most important alternative rock band to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s. Q magazine's Simon Goddard argued in 2007 that the Smiths were "the one truly vital voice of the '80s", "the most influential British guitar group of the decade" and the "first indie outsiders to achieve mainstream success on their own terms". The NME named the Smiths the "most influential artist ever" in a 2002 poll, even topping the Beatles.

The Smiths had several singles reach the UK top twenty and all four of their albums reached the UK top five, including one which topped the charts. The band broke up in 1987 and have turned down several offers to reunite. The band's focus on a guitar, bass and drum sound, and their fusion of 1960s rock and post-punk, were a repudiation of synthesiser-based contemporary dance pop – the style popular in the early 80s.

Ela começou a sua carreira como cantora na banda de acid jazz Crisp, em meados da década de 90. Em 1997, quando os Crisp acabaram, ela lançou o seu álbum de estreia intitulado OnlySee e mudou-se para Londres, Inglaterra, onde cantou pela dupla britânica Zero 7.

Em 2000 Sia assinou contrato com a Dance Music, subsidiária da Sony Music, e lançou o seu segundo álbum de estúdio, Healing Is Difficult, no ano seguinte. Roddy Bottum (nascido Roswell Christopher Bottum III, Los Angeles, 1 de julho de 1963) é um músico americano, mais conhecido como teclista da banda californiana de rock Faith No More.

Bottum estudou piano clássico desde muito jovem, até se mudar para São Francisco, com 18 anos. Em 1982 juntou-se a seus amigos de escola, Billy Gould e Mike Bordin, formando os Faith No More, grupo em que permaneceu até seu fim, em 1998. Após o álbum Angel Dust, lançado em 1992, no entanto, a sua participação na banda foi drasticamente reduzida. Numa entrevista lançada em edição especial em vinil do álbum King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime, Bottum explicou que suas contribuições diminuíram devido à morte de seu pai, naquele mesmo ano. Em 2009 Bottum retornou aos Faith No More para uma turnê de reunião, e uma possível gravação de material inédito.

Entre 1994 e 1995 Bottum formou o grupo Imperial Teen, com a baterista Lynn Perko, outra veterana da cena musical da Bay Area. A banda ficou conhecida pelo single "Yoo Hoo", utilizado no filme Jawbreaker, de 1999.

Carreira

Ficou conhecido por ser o vocalista da banda inglesa The Smiths. Quando a banda terminou em 1987, Morrissey desenvolveu uma carreira solo bem sucedida e é um dos poucos artistas a ter músicas no Top 10 de Vendas de Discos do Reino Unido em três décadas diferentes.

O seu primeiro disco a solo, Viva Hate foi lançado em março de 1988, seis meses após a separação dos Smiths. O seu parceiro musical neste disco foi o produtor de sua ex-banda, Stephen Street, e teve a participação do guitarrista Vini Reilly, do Durutti Column. As músicas "Suedehead" e "Everyday is like Sunday" (os seus dois primeiros singles na carreira a solo) fizeram bastante sucesso.

Depois de alguns singles como "The Last of the Famous International Playboy", "Interesting Drug", "November Spawned a monster", Morrissey lançou sua primeira coletânea de singles e B sides, Bona Drag, em 1990.

Em 1991, com um novo parceiro, Mark E. Nevin, do Fairground Attraction, Morrissey lança Kill Uncle.

Morrissey então inicia uma parceria duradoura com os guitarristas Alain Whyte e Boz Boorer, e lançaria seus melhores trabalhos: Your Arsenal (1992), produzido pelo ex-guitarrista de David Bowie, Mick Ronson, e Vauxhall and I em 1994, além de um single com Siouxsie, "Interlude". Em 1995 lança Southpaw Grammar e em 1997 Maladjusted.

Morrissey fica um período sem gravadora, mas continua excursionando. Em 2000 fez quatro shows no Brasil.

Em 2004 assina com a gravadora Sanctuary Records e lança You Are the Quarry, produzido por Jerry Finn, com grande sucesso de crítica e público.

Em 2006 lança Ringleader of the Tormentors, produzido por Tony Visconti, e inicia novas parcerias com o guitarrista Jesse Tobias.

Em 16 de dezembro de 2006, no concurso televisivo inglês Britain's Greatest Living Icon, "O Maior Ícone Britânico Vivo" (numa escolha realizada por meio de votos do público em geral). Morrissey classificou-se em segundo lugar apenas atrás de Sir David Attenborough, ficando à frente de, entre outros, Paul McCartney.

Em 2009, Morrissey lança mais um disco de músicas originais a que chamou de Years of Refusal.

Os concertos de Morrissey ficaram célebres devido ao número incrível de pessoas que constantemente invadiam o palco para poderem tocar no seu herói. Várias vezes os seus shows tiveram que ser interrompidos por causa da quantidade de invasores presentes no palco que tentavam agarrar o cantor.

Em 17 de outubro de 2013, a autobiografia de Morrissey, intitulado “Autobiografia”, foi publicada. O lançamento do livro causou polémica, porque foi publicado pela editora Penguin Classics, que até então só publicava clássicos da literatura de autores consagrados . O livro entrou na lista dos mais vendidos do Reino Unido em número um , com cerca de 35.000 cópias apenas na primeira semana.

Vida pessoal

É adepto do vegetarianismo. Durante o começo da carreira nos Smiths, ele dizia em entrevistas que era celibatário. Johnny Marr declarou em uma entrevista 1984 que "Morrissey não participa de sexo no momento e não o fez por um tempo, ele teve um monte de namoradas no passado e muito poucos amigos homens."

Morrissey anunciou no dia 5 de junho de 2012, que planeja se aposentar em 2014, quando completa 55 anos. Segundo o site da revista The Hollywood Reporter, Moz - como é chamado por seus fãs - afirma ter envelhecido muito rapidamente nos últimos anos.

Em sua autobiografia, Morrissey afirmou ter tido relacionamento com um fotógrafo, revelando a sua bissexualidade.

Controvérsias

Morrissey atualmente está sendo mais conhecido por suas opiniões e declarações controversas. Em setembro de 2010, o cantor fez uma declaração polémica no jornal britânico The Guardian, chamando os chineses de sub-espécie devido à maneira como tratam os animais, privando-os de qualquer direito ou dignidade.

Critica a Família Real Britânica frequentemente, além de já ter disparado contra PJ Harvey, Bryan Ferry e Tony Blair.

Andrew Michael Rourke (Manchester, 17 January 1964) is an english musician, best known as the bassist for The Smiths.

Career

Andy Rourke received an acoustic guitar from his parents when he was 7 years old. At age 11 he befriended a young John Maher (the future Johnny Marr) with whom he shared a mutual interest in music. The pair spent lunch breaks in school jamming and playing on their guitars. When Marr and Rourke formed a band, he invited Rourke (still then a guitarist) to try on bass, which he fell in love with and he stuck with ever since. At age 15 Rourke abandoned school. He passed through a series of menial jobs and played guitar and bass in various rock bands, as well as in the short lived funk band Freak Party, with his school friend Johnny Marr.

Marr later teamed up with Steven Morrissey to form the Smiths. Rourke joined the band after its first gig, and remained through most of its existence. Rourke was briefly sacked from the band, allegedly receiving the news in a note left under the windscreen wiper of his car: "Andy, you have left The Smiths. Good luck and goodbye, Morrissey". Morrissey has denied this. In May 1986, Rourke rejoined the Smiths, just before they recorded The Queen Is Dead. Marr described Rourke's contribution to that album as "something no other bass player could match". The Smiths released Strangeways, Here We Come in 1987 to critical acclaim, but split soon after.

Immediately after the break-up, Rourke and Smiths drummer Mike Joyce played with Sinéad O'Connor – Rourke (but not Joyce) appears on the album I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got (1990). Along with Craig Gannon, they provided the rhythm section for two singles by former Smiths singer Morrissey – "Interesting Drug" and "The Last of the Famous International Playboys" (both 1989). Rourke also played bass on Morrissey's "November Spawned a Monster" and "Piccadilly Palare" (both 1990) and composed the music for Morrissey's songs "Yes, I Am Blind" (the B-side of "Ouija Board, Ouija Board", 1989); "Girl Least Likely To" (a B-side on the 12-inch single of "November Spawned a Monster"; also released as a bonus track on the 1997 reissue of Viva Hate); and "Get Off the Stage" (the B-side of "Piccadilly Palare").

Rourke has also played and recorded with The Pretenders (appearing on some of the tracks on 1994's Last of the Independents); Killing Joke, Badly Drawn Boy (with whom Rourke toured for two years), Aziz Ibrahim (formerly of The Stone Roses), and ex-Oasis guitarist Bonehead as Moondog One, which also included Mike Joyce and Craig Gannon. Rourke also played bass for Ian Brown, both on tour and on Brown's album The World Is Yours.

In March 1996, Rourke and Mike Joyce started legal proceedings against Morrissey and Marr over royalties (see The Smiths for details). While Joyce continued with the action, Rourke settled out of court for £83,000.

Rourke, his then-manager Nova Rehman, his production company, Great Northern Productions, and others organised Manchester v Cancer, a series of concerts to benefit cancer research, later known simply as Versus Cancer. The initiative was prompted when Rehman's father and sister were diagnosed with the disease. The first Manchester vs Cancer concert took place in January 2006. It featured a reunion between Rourke and his former Smiths bandmate Johnny Marr, who performed one song together. The second Manchester v Cancer concert took place in March 2007. Rourke performed with former Oasis guitarist Bonehead's band Elektrik Milk. Rourke was less involved in organising the third concert in February 2008 or the fourth in December 2009.

Rourke formed Freebass with bass players Mani (ex-The Stone Roses) and Peter Hook (ex-New Order) in 2007 and remained active in the group until August 2010. Early in 2009, he relocated to New York City, where he has a program on East Village Radio and works as a club DJ with Olé Koretsky under the name Jetlag. Stuart Murdoch, dos Belle & Sebastian, faz hoje cinquenta anos

Stuart Lee Murdoch (born 25 August 1968) is a Scottish musician, and the lead singer and songwriter for the indie pop band Belle & Sebastian. The majority of his childhood was spent a stone's throw from the birthplace of Robert Burns in Alloway, Ayr until he left school and attended university in Glasgow.

  

Biography

Murdoch's parents made him take piano lessons during his childhood, and even though he claims not to have enjoyed them at the time, he says he now "appreciates this decision vastly". Apart from early musical activities at secondary school (at the age of twelve he formed a band with fellow pupils, in which he played the piano), Murdoch first became publicly involved in music as a radio DJ for Subcity Radio at the University of Glasgow.

Whilst at university at the end of the 1980s, he became ill with myalgic encephalomyelitis, or Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, and was unable to work for seven years. Murdoch said that the isolation of these years is what led to his becoming a songwriter: "That was a big desert at the time, a kind of vacuum in my life. From that, these songs started coming out, these melodies where I could express what I was feeling." In early 1995 he had largely recovered from his illness, for which he credits a faith healer, and began to look for fellow musicians in order to form a band, which was to become Belle & Sebastian.

This was also when he began living above a church hall and working as its caretaker, a position he maintained until 2003. In 2004 he told The Guardian, "I'm not actually a Christian with a capital C. I'm still asking questions. But I had this time when I found myself singing all these old hymns in my kitchen and I couldn't work out why I was doing it. Then one Sunday morning I got up, looked at my watch, and thought, 'I wonder if I could make it to a church service?' It was so welcoming. It just felt like you were coming home. Twelve years later, I've never left".

Murdoch's interest in faith has been perceptible in his lyrics over the term of the band. Belle and Sebastian's first album included lines about "reading the Gospel to yourself," and on the second Murdoch sang of "the pain of being a hopeless unbeliever." Religious references became more confident and direct on later albums, including "If You Find Yourself Caught in Love" (which continues "say a prayer to the man above" - this line becomes a refrain) on the album Dear Catastrophe Waitress; and the two-part "Act of the Apostle" on The Life Pursuit. Regarding "If You Find Yourself Caught in Love," Murdoch told Gross, "At the time I was writing it I thought, well, should I be so overt? Because I've often couched any religious overtones within characters in the past, but this is a bit more out there. And then I just thought, come on, you've been doing this for years, why not? Why not just be a bit more straightforward?"

Sexually ambiguous lyrics in Belle & Sebastian's music have prompted Murdoch to confirm his heterosexuality in the press, calling himself "straight to the point of boring myself". Murdoch has voiced support for gay marriages, and is a vegetarian.

Murdoch was the producer on Glaswegian band Zoey Van Goey's first single "Foxtrot Vandals".

Murdoch married long-time girlfriend Marisa Privitera on 26 November 2007 in New York. Marisa is on the cover of Belle and Sebastian's DVD Fans Only, and LP The Life Pursuit.

He was diagnosed with colourblindness at an early age and does not drink. "I like a Scotch whisky but I'm allergic to alcohol, would you believe, which is a tragedy in itself," Murdoch says. "It's only in the last couple of years. I got eczema and one of the things I had to do to get rid of it was give up alcohol."

In 2009, Murdoch contributed the song "Another Saturday" to the AIDS benefit album, Dark Was the Night, produced by the Red Hot Organization. Murdoch was one of the most notable protesters attending a 5 December 2009 march in Glasgow, supporting governmental intervention to combat climate change, prior to the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2009 in Copenhagen.

Roddy Bottum (nascido Roswell Christopher Bottum III, Los Angeles, 1 de julho de 1963) é um músico americano, mais conhecido como teclista da banda californiana de rock Faith No More.

Bottum estudou piano clássico desde muito jovem, até se mudar para São Francisco, com 18 anos. Em 1982 juntou-se a seus amigos de escola, Billy Gould e Mike Bordin, formando os Faith No More, grupo em que permaneceu até seu fim, em 1998. Após o álbum Angel Dust, lançado em 1992, no entanto, a sua participação na banda foi drasticamente reduzida. Numa entrevista lançada em edição especial em vinil do álbum King for a Day... Fool for a Lifetime, Bottum explicou que suas contribuições diminuíram devido à morte de seu pai, naquele mesmo ano. Em 2009 Bottum retornou aos Faith No More para uma turnê de reunião, e uma possível gravação de material inédito.

Entre 1994 e 1995 Bottum formou o grupo Imperial Teen, com a baterista Lynn Perko, outra veterana da cena musical da Bay Area. A banda ficou conhecida pelo single "Yoo Hoo", utilizado no filme Jawbreaker, de 1999.
