Peter Hammill, dos Van der Graaf Generator, celebra hoje 76 anos


Peter Joseph Andrew Hammill (Ealing, Londres, 5 de novembro de 1948) é um músico multi-instrumentista, poeta e compositor, ícone referencial e pioneiro do rock progressivo dos anos 70. Ele foi o fundador e líder da emblemática banda britânica, Van der Graaf Generator.

Kevin Ayers morreu onze anos...


Kevin Ayers (Herne Bay, Kent, 16 August 1944 – Montolieu, France, 18 February 2013) was an English singer-songwriter who was active in the English psychedelic music movement. Ayers was a founding member of the psychedelic band Soft Machine in the mid-1960s, and was closely associated with the Canterbury scene. He recorded a series of albums as a solo artist and over the years worked with Brian Eno, Syd Barrett, Bridget St John, John Cale, Elton John, Robert Wyatt, Andy Summers, Mike Oldfield, Nico and Ollie Halsall, among others. After living for many years in Deià, Mallorca, he returned to the United Kingdom in the mid-1990s before moving to the south of France. His last album, The Unfairground, was released in 2007. The British rock journalist Nick Kent wrote: "Kevin Ayers and Syd Barrett were the two most important people in British pop music. Everything that came after came from them."

O lendário guitarrista Jerry Garcia nasceu há 71 anos

Jerome John "Jerry" Garcia (San Francisco, 1 de agosto de 1942 - 9 de agosto de 1995) foi guitarrista , vocalista e letrista da lendária banda de rock psicadélico Grateful Dead. Foi considerado o 46º melhor guitarrista de todos os tempos pela revista norte-americana Rolling Stone.

A sua carreira, contudo, foi muito mais abrangente, envolvendo vários outros projetos. Garcia começou tocando banjo e piano, passou para a guitarra e, mais tarde, tornou-se um mestre em instrumentos de corda, apesar de ter tido o seu dedo médio amputado enquando criança.
Morreu em 1995 num centro de reabilitação para dependentes de drogas na Califórnia, vítima de um ataque cardíaco e desde então virou uma figura de culto na cultura americana.
