Ville Valo, vocalista dos HIM, faz hoje 49 anos

Ville Hermanni Valo (Helsinki, 22 November 1976) is a Finnish singer, songwriter and musician. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the gothic rock band HIM.

Born and raised in Helsinki to a Hungarian mother and Finnish father, Valo began his career playing bass and drums in various bands around the city. In 1991, he co-founded and became the lead singer and main songwriter of HIM, which would go on to become one of the most successful Finnish bands of all time and the first to receive a gold record in the United States. Outside of HIM, Valo has collaborated with various other bands and artists during his career, including Agents, The 69 Eyes, and Apocalyptica. In 2020, Valo embarked on a solo career under the moniker VV. His debut album Neon Noir was released in 2023.

He is also the creator of the heartagram, HIM's trademarked symbol, which has achieved great popularity outside of the band's fanbase. Valo has received several accolades in the music industry and has been regarded as a sex symbol by several publications.

Há 45 anos houve um milagre duplo na música...

   

Closer é o segundo e último álbum de estúdio da banda britânica de pós-punk Joy Division, lançado em 1980.

Foi considerado um dos mais importantes álbuns do movimento pós-punk. As músicas foram gravadas sob uma abóbada de estuque especialmente construída, a fim da captar a ressonância de uma capela. Não há indicação dos lados, seja no selo, seja no encarte. Assim, com o álbum anterior, Unknown Pleasures, a relação das músicas encontra-se apenas no encarte. Na reedição em CD, considerou-se o lado A sendo o que começa com Atrocity Exhibition, e o lado B começa com Heart And Soul.

Por problemas na tiragem, o álbum só foi lançado em junho de 1980, depois do suicídio do vocalista Ian Curtis, tornando-se um álbum póstumo. A capa, que mostra a foto de uma lápide de cemitério, foi concebida antes da morte de Ian Curtis, mas acabou sendo uma infeliz coincidência (a foto foi tirada no Cemitério Staglieno, em Génova, Itália).

Crocodiles is the debut album by the English post-punk band Echo & the Bunnymen. It was released on 18 July 1980 in the United Kingdom and on 17 December 1980 in the United States. The album reached number 17 on the UK Albums Chart. "Pictures on My Wall" and "Rescue" had previously been released as singles.

Recorded at Eden Studios in London and at Rockfield Studios near Monmouth, Crocodiles was produced by Bill Drummond and David Balfe, while Ian Broudie had already produced the single "Rescue". The album received favourable reviews from the music press, receiving four out of five stars by both Rolling Stone and Blender magazines.

Peter Murphy, o vocalista dos Bauhaus, faz hoje 68 anos

 

 

Peter John Joseph Murphy (Northampton, 11 de julho de 1957) é vocalista da banda de rock gótico Bauhaus, tendo também grande percurso a solo com vários êxitos.

Mais conhecido como mítico líder dos Bauhaus, banda post punk de enorme sucesso no início dos anos 80. Murphy ao fim de cinco anos dos Bauhaus abandona a banda e esta fica inativa. Em 1984 Peter Murphy entra num projeto chamado Dali's Car, com Mick Karn, ex-membro dos Japan, que não obteve grande sucesso. É então aí que Peter Murphy decide lançar a sua carreira a solo, afastando-se do estilo musical dos Bauhaus, e entrando num estilo mais rock que fez com que este ganhasse outro tipo de apreciadores.

A carreira a solo de Peter Murphy começa com uma versão de Final Solution, canção do grupo experimental Pere Ubu. Os seus primeiros êxitos são as canções "Indigo Eyes" e "Dragnet Drag", ambas extraídas do seu segundo álbum "Love Hysteria", lançado em 1988, porém o seu apogeu surge em 1990 com os singles "Strange Kind of Love", "Cuts You Up" extraído álbum "Deep". Em 1995 Murphy teve outro álbum de grande sucesso, Cascade, com singles como "Scarlet Thing In You" e "I´ll Fall Wiht Your Knife"

Em 1998 Peter Murphy fez uma turné de aniversário dos 20 anos dos Bauhaus.

Em 2006, Peter Murphy fez uma turné com os Nine Inch Nails, chegando a cantar diversas músicas do NIN como Reptile e Head Like a Hole. Ocorrem diversas apresentações "Bauhaus/Nine Inch Nails", misturando canções de ambos os grupos (além de canções dos Pere Ubu e TV On The Radio).

Em 2008, sem lançamentos de Bauhaus há 25 anos, é editado Go Away White. Com este lançamento, Murphy e os restantes elementos Bauhaus, garantem ser o derradeiro da banda.

Simon Jonathan Gallup é o baixista dos The Cure e o segundo elemento com mais tempo na banda. Nasceu no dia 1 de junho de 1960 em Duxhurst, Surrey, Inglaterra. Antes dos The Cure, tocava nos Lockjaw e The Magazine Spies. Esteve nos Cure entre 1980 e 1982 e depois de 1985 até aos dias de hoje. No período em que esteve afastado da banda formou os Cry e os Fools Dance.

Considerada uma das mais importantes artistas de sua geração e um dos ícones do rock desde a década de 70 até aos dias de hoje, influenciando vários artistas de sua época e posteriormente.

Ela é mais conhecida por ter sido vocalista da banda de rock Siouxsie and the Banshees (1976-1996), grupo que lançou 11 álbuns de estúdio e tiveram vários singles no Top 20 do Reino Unido, incluindo "Hong Kong Garden", "Happy House", "Peek-a-Boo", além de um hit dos 25 maiores da Billboard nos Estados Unidos, "Kiss Them for Me". A banda The Cult lançou em disco a música She Sells Sanctuary há quarenta anos...!

   

"She Sells Sanctuary" is a song by British rock band the Cult. It is from their second studio album, Love (1985), and was released as a single on 13 May 1985, peaking at number 15 on the UK Singles Chart in July of the same year. In March 2023, the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) awarded the song a platinum certification for sales and streams of over 600,000. In January 1993, the song was re-released as "Sanctuary MCMXCIII" and experienced chart success once more, matching its original peak on the UK Singles Chart and entering the top 10 in New Zealand. The song is certified double platinum in Canada and platinum in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

One of the earliest songs written for what would become the Love album, "She Sells Sanctuary" was first performed during the Dreamtime tour in the Autumn of 1984, and would become the last song to be recorded with the Cult's long-time drummer, Nigel Preston, who was fired from the band shortly after its release. According to Cult guitarist Billy Duffy, the iconic introduction effects were the result of all the guitar effects pedals being on at the same time. The recording was edited to include the introduction with the effects, whereas earlier versions started the song more abruptly. Duffy says he found a violin bow lying around the studio and started playing the guitar with it "like Jimmy Page" to amuse singer Ian Astbury, hit every effects pedal he had "to make it sound weirder", and then played the middle section of the song. "And we decided to start the song with that mystical sound. If I hadn't found that violin bow laying around, we wouldn't have gone there," said Duffy.

 

Release

After its release in 1985, the single reached number 36 during a six-week run on the US Billboard Hot Dance/Disco Club Play chart in early 1986. The band has released various versions of the song. Aside from the original 7-inch single, three other versions had been released around the same time on 12-inch formats: "The Long Version", "The Howling Mix" and "Assault on Sanctuary".

On 18 January 1993, several more mixes were released on two different CD singles and a 12-inch single, titled "Sanctuary MCMXCIII". The "Sundance" remix was remixed by Butch Vig who previously had produced Nirvana's Nevermind album. The "Dog Star Rising" remix was remixed by Youth who produced the Cult's eighth album, Born into This. In 2009, two more previously unreleased versions, a demo and the "Olympic Rough Mix" were included in a 4-disc box set of the Omnibus edition of Love. 

 

Reception

John Leland at Spin described it as "one of those inane pieces of pomp pop that - through no fault of the band's - transcends its formidable pretensions to become a whomping dance record. The drums drive the thing, but the crucial sound is guitar — lots of it. Electric, acoustic, distorted, echoey, all chasing a snappy riff. Dopey is dopey, but sometimes, with the right sound, you can get away with it.

Billy Duffy, guitarrista dos The Cult, nasceu há 64 anos

         

Billy Duffy (nascido William Henry Duffy, a 12 de maio de 1961, em Hulme, Manchester) é um guitarrista e compositor inglês, mais conhecido por ser membro integrante da banda britânica The Cult. 

Duffy cresceu em Manchester, onde começou a tocar viola aos catorze anos de idade. Duffy começou sua carreira tocando em diferentes bandas punk de no final de 1970, mas estes anos anteriores foram mais notáveis ​​por ter introduzido Johnny Marr (The Smiths) para a guitarra e incentivando Morrissey para fazer sua estreia cantando com Duffy, em The Nosebleeds.
