Sir James Paul McCartney (Liverpool, 18 de junho de 1942) é um cantor, compositor, baixista, guitarrista, pianista, multi-instrumentista, empresário, produtor musical, cinematográfico e ativista dos direitos dos animais britânico. McCartney alcançou fama mundial como membro da banda de rock britânica The Beatles, com John Lennon, George Harrison e Ringo Starr. Lennon e McCartney foram uma das mais influentes e bem sucedidas parcerias musicais de todos os tempos, "escrevendo as canções mais populares da história do rock". Após a dissolução dos Beatles, em 1970, McCartney lançou-se numa carreira a solo de sucessos, formou uma banda com a sua primeira mulher, Linda McCartney, os Wings. Ele também trabalhou com música clássica, eletrónica e bandas sonoras.

Em 1979, o Livro Guinness dos Recordes declarou-o como o compositor musical de maior sucesso da história da música pop mundial de todos os tempos. McCartney teve 29 composições de sua autoria no primeiro lugar das paradas de sucesso dos EUA, vinte das quais com os Beatles e as restantes na sua carreira a solo ou com o seu grupo Wings.

Paul McCartney é o canhoto e baixista mais famoso da história do rock, embora também toque outros instrumentos, como bateria, piano, guitarra, teclados, etc. É considerado como um dos mais ricos músicos de todos os tempos. Foi eleito, em 2008, o 11º melhor cantor de todos os tempos pela revista Rolling Stone. Fora seu trabalho musical, McCartney trabalha a favor dos direitos dos animais, contra o uso de minas terrestres, a favor da comida vegetariana e a favor da educação musical. Em 1997 foi publicada a biografia intitulada Many Years From Now, autorizada pelo músico e escrita pelo britânico Barry Miles. A sua empresa MPL Communications detém os direitos de autor de mais de três mil canções, incluindo todas as canções escritas por Buddy Holly.

Como os outros três membros da banda, McCartney foi agraciado, em 1966, com o título de membro da Ordem do Império Britânico. Porém, é o único membro dos Beatles a ostentar o título de "Sir", honraria que lhe foi concedida pela Rainha em 1997.

Help! is the fifth studio album by the English rock band the Beatles and the soundtrack to their film of the same name. It was released on 6 August 1965. Seven of the fourteen songs, including the singles "Help!" and "Ticket to Ride", appeared in the film and take up the first side of the vinyl album. During the recording sessions for the album, the Beatles continued to explore the studio's multitracking capabilities to layer their sound. "Yesterday" features a string quartet, the band's first use of Baroque sensibilities, and "You've Got to Hide Your Love Away" includes a flute section. The North American release is a true soundtrack album, combining the first seven songs with instrumental music from the film. The omitted tracks are instead spread across the Capitol Records LPs Beatles VI, Rubber Soul and Yesterday and Today.

In the US, Help! marked the start of artistic recognition for the Beatles from mainstream critics, including comparisons to the European art music tradition. It was nominated in the category of Album of the Year at the 1966 Grammys Awards, marking the first time that a rock band had been recognised in this category. In 2000, it was voted 119th in the third edition of Colin Larkin's book All Time Top 1000 Albums. In 2020, it was ranked 266th on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the "500 Greatest Albums of All Time". In September 2013, after the British Phonographic Industry changed its sales award rules, Help! was certified platinum for recorded sales since 1994.
