Os Sismos e o Apocalipse

Aqui neste Blog não tratamos, habitualmente, de assuntos religiosos, mas a profusão de comentários estúpidos, de gente pouco conhecedora da matéria, que se ouve nos cafés e se lê nos sites dos jornais faz-nos destacar a seguinte notícia:

Ocorrência de tantos abalos é uma "coincidência"
Especialista diz que sismos são normais

De acordo com uma especialista em Sismologia da Universidade do Algarve, as actividades sísmicas que se têm verificado são algo “perfeitamente normal” e não passa de “uma coincidência” ter havido tão grande número sucessivo de abalos.

Maria da Conceição Neves explica que “mais de 90 por cento da actividade sísmica situa-se ao longo das cristas oceânicas onde não há estragos” e que as zonas onde as placas tectónicas convergem estão “sempre” a ser atingidas.

De acordo com a Lusa, a especialista não acredita que agora haja mais abalos sísmicos do que antes. A diferença, no seu entender, é que existem mais meios de comunicação, o que contribuiu para que estes fenómenos naturais sejam mais comentados.

“Não há motivo para alarme”, assegurou Maria da Conceição Neves que afirma não haver uma explicação cientifica para justificar a ocorrência dos sismos nos últimos meses que têm causado a morte de milhares de pessoas e a destruição de inúmeras cidades.
