James Hutton (Edimburgo, 14 de junho de 1726 - Edimburgo, 26 de março de 1797) foi um geólogo, químico e naturalista escocês, conhecido por ser o pai do uniformitarismo e do plutonismo. Pelo seu trabalho pioneiro na interpretação dos processos geológicos é considerado como o pai da geologia moderna.
